Last year's winner of the global phenomenon Eurovision Song Contest is coming to Vancouver soon.
The Kalush Orchestra, a Ukrainian hip-hop act integrating traditional music, will be in town Nov. 1. Their show at the Biltmore Cabaret marks the beginning of their 2023 North American Tour, which will wrap up in Toronto.
The six-person group actually started off as a side project from Kalush, a two-person rap group. Forming in 2021, they were Ukraine's entry into Eurovision in May 2022, just months after Russia invaded their country.
They entered the contest with their song "Stefania" about a child watching their mother age.
The Vancouver concert will also act as a fundraiser for Ukraine, states the band in a social media post.
The show takes place at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.) on Nov. 1 at the Biltmore Cabare. Originally it had been planned for the Vogue Theatre, but there's been a venue change. Tickets sold for the Vogue show will be honoured at the Biltmore. Tickets for the show are just over $100 after fees.
