Forget Candy Cane Lane -- the Hyatt Regency Vancouver transports visitors into a gingerbread wonderland with its annual fundraising display.
The 31st Gingerbread Lane event will be open to the public from Dec. 1 to Dec. 29, inviting guests to make donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation during the holiday season. The foundation grants over 1,000 wishes annually to children facing critical illnesses.
Upwards of 20,000 people visit the festive display each year, offering them the chance to see the "exceptional talents of local individuals and groups who use gingerbread as their canvas to create awe-inspiring masterpieces."
There are four different categories of participants in the contest: professional, corporate, amateur, and secondary school. The winner will be announced at the opening ceremony on Nov. 30.
This contest is a friendly, festive competition but also serves as a platform to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
"It is an honour for us to host the 31st Gingerbread Lane and support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We firmly believe in the power of making dreams come true for children who need it the most with local community members," says Patrick Gosselin who is the general manager of the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
