Vancouver filming locations: Charlize Theron movie films at downtown church

One of the actors on the set was dressed as a priest.

An Academy Award-winning actress filmed in a striking building in Vancouver's downtown core.

Hollywood A-lister Charlize Theron is in Vancouver filming scenes and taking photographs for Old Guard 2.

The film is the second instalment of the Old Guard franchise, which sees Theron as a member of a "covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with an inability to die" that protects the world. When their abilities are exposed, they must eliminate the threat of villains replicating their power, according to Imdb.com

Scenes for the movie were filmed at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in downtown Vancouver on Wednesday, Oct. 16 (see slides two and three).

Theron was in the city earlier this year filming scenes for the film and returned this month.

Frederick Vinas wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that one of the actors on the set was dressed as a priest.

Holy Rosary Cathedral is a popular Vancouver filming location

American filmmaker Mike Flanagan filmed scenes for The Fall of the House of Usher at the same church in June 2022. The series is based on the short story written by American playwright, poet, and novelist, Edgar Allan Poe.

Like many of Poe's works, the story centres around Gothic and dark themes, making the ornate church the ideal filming location.

Flanagan is known for several other popular horror TV shows and films, including Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, and Gerald's Game
