First, there was the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and now there's the Hoppy Horror Beer Show.
Coming to the Croatian Cultural Centre on Oct. 21, the new twist on a beer festival promises plenty of ales and lagers to try, along with a fun night of Halloween-themed entertainment.
"It's a Halloween party with monster burlesque and beverages," says organizer Mike Willis (who recently put on the Fruit Beer Festival). "It's a place to not worry, let loose, dress up and watch a show."
Unlike most beer festivals these days, this one won't have a token system. Instead, it's a one-time payment upfront, as part of the ticket to get in. Along with unique beers, he's also got meads, ciders, and non-alcoholic beverages lined up. But he's making sure it's not a typical beer festival at the same time.
Notably, the entertainment will be unusual, with a monster burlesque show put on by local troop the Geekenders, meaning the likes of Frankenstein and Dracula will be on stage. There's also going to be a live band playing 60s-style surf rock.
There will also be a small marketplace with local makers, including handcrafted tabletop dice, jewellery, and a leather maker.
Willis is also encouraging people to dress up for the event, though it's not a requirement.
He's hoping that if things go well it can be an annual event with bigger, theatrical entertainment.
Tickets are on sale now with a capacity of 500 for the event.
