The Stanley Park Miniature Train will resume offering rides starting May 22, 2021, with COVID-19 safety measures in place.

All aboard! The charming miniature train that has thrilled kids and grown-ups alike for decades in Vancouver's Stanley Park will re-open for the summer starting Saturday, May 22.

The Stanley Park Miniature Train will have specific COVID-19 safety measures in place for the attraction.

Passengers ride aboard the train that chugs merrily along for 15 minutes along a two-kilometre loop of a 20-gauge track, through a section of land cleared by 1962's devastating Typhoon Freda.

"The jewel of the Stanley Park Railway’s collection of old locomotives is a locally-built replica of Canadian Pacific Railway Engine #374, famous for pulling Canada's first transcontinental passenger train into Vancouver in the late 1880s," describes the City of Vancouver.

Operated by the City of Vancouver, the Stanley Park Train routinely welcomes over 200,000 visitors annually - when the venue isn't off-limits due to a global pandemic, that is.

Starting May 22, the train will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends, including statutory holiday Mondays.

The train will offer expanded hours once summer is underway. From June 30 to September 6, the Stanley Park Miniature Train will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., five days per week from Wednesday to Sunday.

Here are some important COVID-19 safety measures of note for the attraction:

  • Masks and face coverings are required for all passengers three years and older. Disposable masks will be provided for any passengers without their own.
  • The ticket booth is accepting payment by debit or credit cards only.
  • Physical distancing protocols are in place. Remain two metres apart while waiting to purchase tickets or to board the train.

Late last year there had been hopes the Stanley Park Train could offer its magical, musical, illuminated Christmas ride, however due to provincial health orders restricting seasonal events and large gatherings the event was called off in early December.

The Stanley Park Railway is located at 690 Pipeline Road in Vancouver.
