While the annual 4/20 event won't take place in downtown Vacouver today, fans of the protest party can join a virtual celebration starting just before noon.
Vancouver’s 4/20 event, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, typically attracts thousands of participants every year. However, the gathering was cancelled last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, organizers invite cannabis aficionados from far and wide to join them for a vitual pot-centric bash complete with appearances from cannabis activists as well as music and clips from the festival's 26-year history.
Festivities will commence at 11:50 a.m. (PT) and will continue until they celebrate all the 4/20s across the country.
In an online post, organizers state that, "The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have been felt globally, leading to venue closures and event cancellations, social distancing and self isolation – all measures aimed at flattening the curve as the coronavirus spreads."
"So light a joint, count down, and celebrate the best of cannabis culture with us on April 20."
Cannabis rights activist Dana Larsen adds that he will, "be giving away a pound of cannabis today as we celebrate 420 online today from coast to coast!"
