This year's Vancouver Chinatown Festival brings both traditional and modern attractions to the beautiful, historic neighbourhood.
On July 16 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and July 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the festival is taking over Columbia and Keefer streets, filling Chinatown with festivities that honour the culture and celebrate the community.
There are plenty of fun things to do, learn and see at the festival. Here's the full list of everything you can expect:
Cultural Festivities
The weekend will see beautiful traditional celebrations such as a lion dance, which brings good fortune and prosperity and will be part of the Opening Ceremony, as well as a blend of traditional and modern Asian performances from dance groups, bands, musicians and other artists.
Food Trucks
With 24 street food trucks, festival goers will get a chance to taste authentic street snacks and foods from all over Asia.
Activities
The festival will have plenty of fun, featuring a mobile aquarium where you can see marine animals and artifacts up close, a photo booth (you can bring your pet too), an augmented reality scavenger hunt, giant mah jong tiles, a day market and a movie night right in the heart of Chinatown. Children can explore the Kid Zone filled with face painting, balloon twisting and crafts.
