A fresh new ranking of top watering holes in North America has included one popular veteran Vancouver cocktail spot.
The Keefer Bar has landed smack dab in the middle on the just-revealed North America's 50 Best Bars list, coming in at position 25.
The awards, organized by The World’s 50 Best Bars, were handed out Tuesday, June 7 in New York City.
For its inaugural rankings of the absolute best places for cocktails in Canada, the United States and Mexico, "North America’s 50 Best Bars is a snapshot of the opinions and experiences of 220 bar industry experts across the region," describes the awards.
The judging panels are split into regions and must adhere to strict parameters to cast their confidential votes.
When it comes down to how the countries fared, the USA leads the list with 29 bars, with Mexico fielding 11, Canada boasting eight, and the Caribbean celebrating two top bars.
The only Vancouver or B.C. bar is The Keefer Bar. "The Keefer Bar is found on the fringe of Vancouver’s historic Chinatown, a location that permeates every aspect of the bar. The menu features drinks like the Tokyo Drift, which stirs together Toki, amber vermouth, kumquat gomme and tobacco-inspired bitters," describes the awards.
"Thank you to all of our amazing staff, and our wonderful guests who keep us working hard to bring you a one of a kind experience," shares The Keefer Bar regarding this latest accolade.
The Keefer Bar is no stranger to "best bars" lists; just last month it was named in the third slot on the 2022 Canada's 50 Best Bars rankings.
And great news for Keefer fans: the owners (who also own Mexico's lush agri-oasis Acre hotel and restaurant) are at work transforming the legendary below-ground bar space at Vancouver's storied Rosewood Hotel Georgia into a new venture called The Herrick.
