Chef Chris Lam opened Straight & Marrow in July 2020 in East Vancouver. The restaurant will close in December 2024.

The end of a good run is now on the horizon for Chef Chris Lam and his restaurant Straight & Marrow.

The chef-driven concept, which opened its doors at the height of the pandemic in July 2020, will close permanently this month.

Straight & Marrow is located at 1869 Powell St; it took over the East Vancouver space that was previously the beloved Bistro Wagon Rouge

Lam (Provence Mediterranean Grill, Westin Bayshore, Nuba) brought his considerable experience to the table, along with a nose-to-tail minimum waste cooking philosophy, realized through dishes like Chicken Skin Waffles with fried chicken gizzards, Crispy Lamb Neck with onion jam, and, as its name implies, bone marrow.

Ahead of its 2020 launch, Lam said his vision for the restaurant was "to provide a casual, affordable experience that doesn’t sacrifice on quality."

The 25-seat restaurant even had to begin its tenure under pandemic restrictions that capped its seating at 18.

Lam says he is grateful to everyone who supported him and his team along the way, according to a media alert about the impending closure.

However, there is also a note of positivity, as Lam hints there is already a plan at work for something to come and he will be sharing more soon about the next chapter.

Straight & Marrow's last day of business will be Thursday, Dec. 21, 2024. Everyone is invited to come by and have a final meal at the restaurant. Straight & Marrow is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to midnight.
