Back in the early 1990s, chocolatiers in Vancouver weren't necessarily using terms like "local" and "sustainable." Then there was Greg Hook. He founded Chocolate Arts, and set up shop making beautiful artisan handmade chocolates in Vancouver, establishing the business as a trailblazer in the local biz, and ultimately establishing a delightful shop and café in Kitsilano.
Today, Chocolate Arts has announced they will be closing down their West 3rd Avenue location next year.
"It has been an incredible 27 years of delighting taste buds in Kitsilano," writes the chocolate shop in their announcement.
Chocolate Arts notes that the announcement is being presented with "mixed emotions" about the closure, which is set for April 2020.
"The future is an exciting adventure waiting to be created," they add.
In the immediate future, Chocolate Arts is pledging to put their focus right now on Christmas and all their beautiful, whimsical, and artful creations.
Chocolate Arts is known firstly for their chocolates that make use of regional ingredients and draw inspiration from global flavours. This essential Vancouver chocolate shop uses all natural flavours and makes all their essences and concentrates in-house. Seasonal chocolate creations are playful and sculptural.
In their cafe you will find soups and sandwiches, as well as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.
Chocolate Arts says they'll have a "memory wall" installed at the cafe in January for fans to leave a message.
Here's their farewell message in full:
