Shoppers to Coquitlam Centre will soon have a new, more modern place to dine in leisurely comfort.
On Saturday (March 4), mall management announced via social media that big plans are in the works for the popular food court.
Construction is expected to start on the food court renovation and Level 2 washrooms this spring, with more information to be shared at a future date, according to the Coquitlam Centre website.
The upgrade will be a significant investment, according to marketing manager Megan Lee, with the food court renovation to cost approximately $9 million and the washroom revamp to cost about $2 million.
Work is expected to take about eight months and be complete in time for holiday shopping in November. In the meantime, efforts will be made to reduce any inconvenience to customers.
Most of the construction will occur after hours, according to the website, and all food vendors will be open for business as usual throughout the renovation.
A video available online shows a revamped food court with more seating, including a new cafe section, and lounging chairs, as well as updated lighting, decor and a brighter colour scheme.
As many as 200 more seats will be added to the food court, according to the announcement; as well, food vendors will be updated.
Morguard Investments manages Coquitlam Centre mall and is also planning 2,175 new homes and retail for a major change to Burquitlam Plaza.
