Okay, enough fried chicken already.
Several of those restaurants have recently opened, or are about to, in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam, including Hi Five Chicken coming to Burquitlam.
But now, a Vancouver-based eatery is set to deliver a different kind of crunch in the form of Japanese-style Tonkatsu, a dish that consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet.
Saku — which has two outlets in Vancouver serving up the tasty treats — has announced via signage in Coquitlam (107-567 Clarke Rd.) that it will be opening a restaurant this winter.
What we know about Saku is that it's popular in Vancouver and has a number of positive reviews, despite occasional line-ups at the restaurant that doesn't take reservations.
According to its website, Saku serves up Tonkatsu as well as Udon noodle soup.
In Vancouver, its decor is traditional Japanese, featuring lots of wood and a pale colour palette. However, it has a distinctly urban West Coast feel that will fit nicely in the fast-growing neighbourhood of Burquitlam.
Next door is the popular bakery and café Bjorn Bar, which has been serving up customers on the ground floor of the "U" rental tower at the corner of Clarke Road and Como Lake Avenue.
Also close by is Freshii, offering bowls, burritos, salads, wraps, soups, smoothies and juices.
Both restaurants are across from the busy Burquitlam SkyTrain Station.
Saku will also have some competition from nearby Katsuya restaurant (8-555 Clarke Rd.).
