Downtown Vancouver restaurant shutters after just over a year in business

From fusion-fuelled fare to more familiar Indian dishes, this spot shuttered quietly

The former Lemon Fusion restaurant on West Georgia Street in Downtown Vancouver has closed and will soon become home to Vietnamese-Canadian spot Pho Georgia

Lemon Fusion had a tough go in its first year, and now the restaurant at 575 W Georgia St has quietly shuttered this winter.

Previously, the space was briefly Laboratory Sous Vide in late 2021, and, before that, had spent several years as the casual sandwich and salad cafe The Nosherie.

Lemon Fusion's concept was initially focused on the "fusion" component, but in recent months the menu appears to have shifted to offer predominantly more traditional Indian dishes.

"East Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Canadian with a fusion twist. Complete bar, coffee and shakes," was the brief bit of info provided by the new venture ahead of its opening at the end of 2022.

In its first several months in business, Lemon Fusion's menu ran the gamut from burgers and quesadillas to salads and loaded poutine dishes. A section of the menu included dishes under the category of "Food Lust" with wink-wink names for meals like "Chicken 69," "Foursome Platter," and "Veggie Arousal." The restaurant also served up over-the-top loaded milkshakes.

Since the fall, however, the menu appears to have been tapered down and offered casual eats like chicken burgers, poutine, and Indian dishes like Butter Chicken with naan.

According to the City of Vancouver's business license records, Lemon Fusion has "Gone out of business" as of February 14, 2024.

The URL for Lemon Fusion's restaurant now redirects to its listing on Google Maps. A call during lunchtime on Friday, March 15 went unanswered.

Lemon Fusion last updated its Instagram feed in December 2023.

A business license for a restaurant called Pho Express Georgia is currently pending for 575 W Georgia St in Vancouver. The business was registered in British Columbia in early February and a banner has been in the vacant restaurant's window announcing the new concept "Pho Georgia" moving in. The restaurant will have Vietnamese and Canadian dishes on the menu.

V.I.A. has reached out to Lemon Fusion via an email address previously used to communicate with operators to learn about the closure but did not receive a reply.
