UPDATE 12/7/23: Dear Gus will open on Friday, Dec. 8. Original story follows below
This fall, the ever-evolving landscape of Mount Pleasant's Olympic Village-adjacent zone will welcome another fresh face: Dear Gus Snack Bar.
Owner Rachel Lee tells V.I.A. by email that Dear Gus Snack Bar "is a wine bar concept that brings the charm of a European neighbourhood favourite" to the area, specifically to 2040 Quebec St.
The venture is currently in its build-out stage; Lee says she is working with Waissbluth Architecture Office and Milltown Contracting.
With what Lee describes as a "lively community space with a cozy and intimate 18 seats," Dear Gus will serve "classic-style, approachable wines and rotating seasonal small plates."
The Mount Pleasant Industrial Area, as it's known, is seeing a steady influx of new builds and new businesses, particularly those in the food and drink sector.
While Dear Gus Snack Bar is aiming to be open by September, the neighbourhood should see the doors open this summer to bottle cocktail biz Please!'s Tasting House on 5th Avenue in a former auto body shop. Last summer, Mount Pleasant Vintage and Provisions joined the neighbourhood and was just named one of Canada's 50 Best Bars.
