Flavours from Xi'an featured at new Richmond restaurant

Menu offerings include various lamb dishes as well as seasonal specialties.

A new restaurant opened this week featuring stewed lamb made with flavours from Xi'an, China.

Li’s Stewed Lamb's menu offers various types of dishes, such as fine lamb meat, racks of lamb, boiled lamb dumplings, Xi’an-style pancakes, smoked pork chitterlings and more.

“We collaborate with farms in Rocky Mountains to transport fresh goats three times a week to ensure the freshness of our ingredients,” said Li Guoqi, the owner of Li’s Stewed Lamb.

In the Chinese language, the same word is used for both "lamb" and "goat."

Li wanted to bring cuisine from his hometown to the Lower Mainland restaurant scene.

“I’m from Xi’an. Every time, my friends came over, they would ask me to make stewed lamb, which they really enjoyed," he said. "So I wanted to continue publicizing our Xi’an food in Greater Vancouver.”

In addition to their signature lamb dishes, the restaurant also offers various seasonal Xi’an specialties based on the time of year.

The restaurant's capacity is 104 people and it includes five private rooms.

Li's Stewed Lamb, located at the Central at Garden City plaza off Garden City Road, is open during for lunch and dinner every day.
