The Cordova in Gastown is closing down after a single year in business on the ground floor of Vancouver's historic Woodward's Building.

After almost exactly one year in Vancouver's Gastown neighbourhood, The Cordova restaurant and bar is closing permanently.

Located in the historic Woodward's Building, the eatery offers classic pub fare, late-night drinks, and a place for sports fans to watch fights or games, along with karaoke and trivia nights.

When The Cordova opened in June of 2023 there was a partnership with BRGR BRGR and plans for cocktails.

However, the business has just announced its impending closure.

"It is with a heavy heart we announce that The Cordova will be permanently closing May 30," reads a post on social media. "Thank you to all our customers for the support and patronage."

The space in the flatiron-style building at 136 W Cordova St has been home to a couple of notable eateries with a similar sports bar/gastropub concept in recent times; The Charles Bar was a popular spot for a decade, and GPO Bar and Kitchen moved over from Granville Street for a couple of years before closing.

What comes next is unclear, but The Cordova is suggesting plans for the next chapter for the Gastown space are already in motion.

"We’re sad to be leaving but we’re excited for what’s coming into this space next!" reads the Instagram post.
