It was a bit of a surprise for many when Verre, at 550 Denman Street where the West End meets Coal Harbour, shut down recently without notice.

However, in its place, a new venture has now cropped up. Called Harbour550, the restaurant features a Mediterranean-inspired menu with Asian touches.

In the kitchen is Chef Randy Fontana, who is behind dishes like meatballs with house-made focaccia, a lemon and tumeric-rubbed half-chicken, fresh seafood appetizers, and several handmade pastas.

For dessert, there's a Yuzu Budino and a Matcha Tiramisu to really see the Italian-Asian fusion in action.

Additionally, Harbour550 is doing a special Happy Hour menu, available Wednesday to Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. and all day Sunday and Tuesday, featuring items priced at just $5.50 apiece. Happy Hour food selections include a pair of the "taco of the day," fried chicken with a sweet and spicy glaze, or yam fries with a truffle chipotle aioli, and, of course, there are beer and wine options, too.

Harbour550 is open Tuesday through Sunday from 2 to 10 p.m.
