RIP: Vancouver's "haunted" whiskey bar, the Dark Manor Inn, never made it to their first Halloween. The Fraser Street theme bar announced over the long weekend that they would be closing up shop within the week.
Opened in November, the Dark Manor Inn was the project from the same crew behind Vancouver (and Toronto's) popular Shameful Tiki Room. The bar concocted an eerie backstory to go with their haunted mansion decor, aiming to give patrons a thrill with their cocktails.
The Dark Manor Inn shared the news of their closing on social media, noting that the location and the concept didn't end up aligning well.
"After a strong opening, the recent months have been a mighty struggle. While our concept is cool, it would have been better suited elsewhere," explains the Dark Manor Inn.
There's been a bit of turnover on this stretch of Fraser; Dark Manor Inn has been up and running across from the now-shuttered Escobar (which will soon become an all-day brunch restaurant), and near Ubuntu Canteen, which took over the space previously occupied by Bows x Arrows' hybrid cafe-bar concept.
It sounds like the Shameful Tiki Room crew are going to revamp the Dark Manor space into something else, as indicated by their closing announcement: "What's replacing the Manor you ask? Stay tuned..."
The Dark Manor Inn will be open until July 7, and the bar is urging those interested in coming by for the pre-closing wake, if you will, to make a reservation.
The Dark Manor Inn is located at 4298 Fraser Street in Vancouver.
