Well, well, well...looks like Lonsdale Quay Market "health food restaurant" Wela will soon be in Vancouver.
The "health bar" casual eatery, which specializes in items like bowls, wraps, and smoothies, will be opening a location at 980 Howe St.
Wela debuted on the North Shore at the market in 2019. "We offer a wide range of globally-inspired healthy bowls and superfood smoothies. Our mission is to reinvent and transform the flavours of health food in order to inspire all of us to lead a wholesome life," describes the business on its website.
"Although the origin of our foods is varied, the origin of our founding team is Thailand," details the Wela team, citing Thai cuisine's hallmark focus on a balance between flavours like sweet, sour, salty, and spicy.
To that end, Wela's core menu of bowls includes bases like the Bangkok (romaine, baby spinach, brown rice, chickpea, bell pepper, shredded red cabbage, cucumber, shredded carrot, Thai peanut dressing) or the Chilango (brown rice, romaine, baby arugula, black bean, sweet corn, bell pepper, red onion, tortilla chip, toasted red pepper chipotle), for example. Customers choose toppings for an additional charge, such as hummus, roasted sweet potato, chicken, or tofu.
There's also a build-your-own bowl option, with a variety of fresh ingredients and dressings from which to choose.
When it comes to wraps, the Avocado Wrap features mashed chickpea and avocado, baby spinach and chili flakes in a tortilla, while the Chipotle Wrap is made with chicken breast, kale, red cabbage, and chipotle mayo, in a tortilla. There are a few other wrap options on offer, including a couple that echo the bowl selection.
Wela's menu includes several vegan and gluten-free options as well.
A timeline for Wela's launch in downtown Vancouver has not been set. Follow @wela.eatwell on Instagram for more info and updates.
