Earl of Sandwich has landed in Port Coquitlam and its kingdom is now open for new subjects.

The hot sandwich chain officially opened its Tri-City restaurant today, Oct. 1 in Poco Place (#31A-2755 Lougheed Hwy.) — near Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street.

This is also the second Metro Vancouver location for Earl of Sandwich, which planted its North American empire in Orlando, Fla., in 2004.

Its operating hours, as of tomorrow, Oct. 2, are as follows:

  • Sunday to Thursday
    • 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday
    • 8:30 a.m. to midnight

A sandwich restaurant of royal pro-portions will soon grow its empire into Port Coquitlam.

Earl of Sandwich, which claims to make the "world's greatest hot sandwich," is set to open its first Tri-Cities location in the fall — its second in Metro Vancouver and third in all of B.C.

The U.S.-based business made the announcement on social media earlier this month.

It'll be situated in Poco Place (#31A-2755 Lougheed Hwy.), located off the northeast corner of Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street. The day of it's official grand opening is still being determined.

The Earl of Sandwich name is fitting considering its family tree — and the restaurant started its 21st-century legacy in near one of the happiest places on Earth.

In 2004, the restaurant opened its inaugural shop at Walt Disney World's Disney Springs in Orlando, Fla., and now has more than 50 franchises around the globe, including in France, the Philippines and South Korea.

It's signature sandwich, "The Montagu," is in honour of John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich®, who invented the namesake meal while playing cards in 1762.

The dish consists of roast beef and turkey with Swiss and cheddar cheeses, lettuce, tomato, and Earl's signature mustard sauce.

"Who could be better to continue the tradition of the sandwich than the descendants of its inventor? In 2004, Lord John Montagu, the 11th Earl of Sandwich® and his son, the Honorable Orlando Montagu, direct descendants of the inventor of the sandwich, partnered with Robert Earl, founder and CEO of Planet Hollywood®, to launch the Earl of Sandwich® restaurants," the business' website states.

Other sandwiches include "The Original 1762," with roast beef, cheddar and horseradish sauce; a meatball sandwich; ham and cheese; a veggie; a Cuban sandwich; and a full breakfast menu.

The Earl of Sandwich also has sides like tater tots, soups, salads and kid-friendly options for little eaters.

Its other Metro Vancouver franchise in Langley opened in December last year.
