A Granville Street sushi bar just closed suddenly after almost 10 years this week, citing the owner's retirement.

A Vancouver sushi bar in east Kerrisdale specializing in donburi and Japanese desserts closed suddenly this week following the owner's retirement.

In an Instagram post sharedThursday (June 29), Hikari Cafe announced its operator, Mr. Akiyama was retired as of June 20. "We are sad to say goodbye," reads the post, adding: "Thank you, everyone, for supporting us these past nine years."

The brief post concludes with, "Hikari Cafe is now permanently closed."

The small family-run spot was located at 5701 Granville St and served authentic homestyle Japanese food from sushi to omelette rice to ice cream waffle dessert.

The restaurant's website has been disabled but an Instagram story says that Mr. Akiyama will continue to run the social media account. "If you would like to keep in touch or stay updated about his future plans, then feel free to stay connected."
