After over a decade, JOEY has closed their location on West Broadway near Granville Street.
The last day of service of the chain restaurant at that location was October 21.
For sometime, the fate of the restaurant pretty much hovered over the building, in the form of a big, bright yellow "for lease" sign. JOEY countered the sign with their own declaration of "We haven't moved yet! Come on in!"
JOEY points to the impending onslaught of construction chaos in the area due to the planned transit expansion as reason for them departing the site after 12 years.
"We are grateful for the support of our guests who visited us over the past 12 years," explains JOEY on their website. "Unfortunately, with the upcoming infrastructure project of the Millennium Line Broadway Extension, we anticipate major traffic interruption for our guests along the Broadway corridor."
While its lights out for JOEY at 1424 West Broadway, the Vancouver-born chain that began in 1992 continues to operate four Metro Vancouver locations (two in Vancouver, and one each in Burnaby and Coquitlam). JOEY has expanded tremendously in recent years, operating locations in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario, as well as in Los Angeles and three in Seattle.
