They hold the Guinness World Record for “Most Flavours Of Ice Cream In The World” (that's 238) but Vancouver's over-the-top bright pink La Casa Gelato started 40 years ago offering customers a choice of just eight flavours.
Owners Vince and Pina Misceo opened La Casa Gelato back in 1982, and the business remains a family operation.
Since the gelato shop in East Van is celebrating turning 40 - as expected - they're doing it up big with a "huge block party."
Taking place Sunday, July 10 from 1 to 6 p.m., La Casa Gelato welcomes fans and gelato-lovers to come hang out and celebrate with them. La Casa Gelato's 40th birthday event will feature a special guest dance group, live DJ, sidewalk chalk artist, and a number of giveaways.
La Casa Gelato's operators love to give back to the community (to mark their Guinness World Record, they held a fundraiser to benefit BC Children’s Hospital that brought in over $4200.
The Misceo family will continue this tradition for their big 4-0 block party, as they will be "covering all food and event costs for the event" and "100 per cent of all sales from the day will be donated to BC Children’s Hospital," according to the business.
The treat shop always has a staggering array of flavours of its gelato, sorbetto, and frozen yogurt available for scooping into cups, cones, or pints. Flavours include everything from a classic Stracciatella to things like Kimchi, Chocolate Bacon, Death By Mango, Green Tea Oreo, Roasted Garlic, Durian, and much (much!) more - in fact, La Casa Gelato's creative minds have come up with upwards of 600 flavours over the last 40 years - that's a lot of gelato!
