The premise is pretty simple: Eat poutine during La Poutine Week and go online and vote for your favourites. And this glorious event celebrating Canada’s unofficial national drunk food takes place the first week of February each year.
Originally launched in Montreal, the annual fest of decadent loaded fries takes place in cities and regions across Canada, including Vancouver, which is part of the La Poutine Week B.C. event.
"La Poutine Week allows participants to discover new venues, while providing the opportunity to taste poutine creations they never would have originally. It also allows for restaurants to showcase their best, while increasing their sales and popularity," elaborate organizers.
Participating restaurants are expected to be revealed by the end of January.
While restaurants may not always be offering up the unique (and often elaborate) poutines they put out for La Poutine Week, we certainly won’t stop you from celebrating in your own way, at your own pace.
Vancouver may not be Canada’s poutine capital, but there are plenty of spots piling on the gravy, cheese curds, and other inventive toppings onto heaping plates (or paper takeout trays) of fries. Go forth and eat poutine.
