Prado Cafe, which began on Vancouver's Commercial Drive in 2004, is preparing to open an eighth location. The coffee shop chain will operate at a new mixed-use development in Vancouver's Dunbar neighbourhood

A Vancouver-based indie cafe chain is set to add yet another outpost to its roster. Prado Cafe will be a tenant in the new build Legacy building in Vancouver's Dunbar area.

Legacy on Dunbar is a mixed-use development located on Dunbar at 28th Avenue, expected to be completed this summer. Other retail tenants include BMO and Jak's Liquor.

Prado Cafe will occupy a ground-floor space in the multi-unit building, which also boasts an outdoor public plaza.

Though the brand Prado began in 2004, in 2011 it was taken over by award-winning barista Sammy Piccolo. There are now seven Prado locations across Metro Vancouver: Four (including the original one on Commercial Drive) in Vancouver, and one each in Burnaby (Still Creek), Surrey (Civic Plaza), and Tsawwassen (Southlands).

Prado Cafe locations serve drip and espresso coffees using their own Prado Coffee beans, tea, and other hot and cold beverages, as well as baked goods and casual lunch-centric fare like sandwiches and avocado toasts.

In a Q&A posted to the Legacy on Dunbar developer's website, Piccolo gives some insight into what's in store for the upcoming location: "Every Prado is different. They all have a different feel and design that embraces the neighbourhood."

"Dunbar is a connected community and a cafe with fresh pastries and world-class coffee will be a great addition to the neighbourhood," added the Prado Cafe owner.

So far, no details have been made available yet about an opening timeline for Prado's planned eighth location. You can follow @pradocafe on Instagram for updates and more info.
