It's been over a year since T&T Supermarket announced it would open a second grocery store in Coquitlam.
Now, the popular Asian-inspired grocery store has finally set an opening date for its Lougheed store, located at 1085 Woolridge St.
T&T Supermarket is set to open June 1, according to the company's Instagram feed.
The new store replaces a large former housewares store, Home Outfitters.
For months, the company was behind construction fencing while work crews updated the building to grocery store standards in a renovation that cost $2.5 million, according to the value of a building permit with the City of Coquitlam.
A source familiar with the operation told the Tri-City News recently that the new T&T Lougheed store will be three times larger than the current store at Coquitlam Centre mall.
Close to IKEA, and what will eventually be the master-planned Fraser Mills neighbourhood, T&T has its sights set on meeting the needs of the area that has up until now been served by Real Canadian Superstore (1301 Lougheed Hwy).
Its closest competition might be HMart, a Korean grocery store at 329 North Rd.
The announcement means residents in growing neighbourhoods of southwest Coquitlam and Burquitlam will soon have a new place to shop for Asian products including meats, dairy, produce, daily baked breads and ready-to-eat meals.
T&T Supermarket is the largest Asian supermarket chain in Canada with stores in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario.
