The matcha trend is continuing in Metro Vancouver and this time, it’s a Hawaii-based café that’s gearing up to open its first Canadian location in Richmond this week.
Matcha Café Maiko gained popularity in Honolulu and has since opened other locations throughout the United States. The Richmond location was originally scheduled to open in January, but is now scheduled to open on Thursday, May 2 at 8279 Saba Rd, near the Richmond Public Market.

The café is known for its matcha ice cream, shaved ice desserts and waffle cones that are made in-house.
For something even more decadent, the café’s new “Golden Shogun” dessert comes with a “glimmering gold” foil on top of their signature matcha soft serve.
The café’s matcha comes from Harima Garden, which has been operating since the mid-1800s and is described as being “high quality” with “a great smell and outstanding taste.”
