Zapoteca, opening in Vancouver on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano will focus on Oaxacan foods; the southern Mexican region is home to the indigenous Zapotec people.

More than a year after the Cove closed on West 4th Avenue, its replacement is finally making its presence known.

Zapoteca Cantina de Barrio is "coming soon" to the restaurant space at 3681 W 4th Ave near the intersection with Alma Street.

This will be the second restaurant for the business, as Zapoteca Mexican Grill and Seafood opened up in White Rock in early 2018.

Zapoteca will focus on Oaxacan foods; the southern Mexican region is home to the indigenous Zapotec people.

"Since the founding of Zapoteca, our passion has been to share the richness of Mexican cuisine with our customers," states the new restaurant's website.

While a menu for the new restaurant hasn't been announced, the White Rock location features a variety of dishes including Oaxacan salad, barbacoa and enchiladas. Hours haven't been announced, either, but the original location operates from 11 a.m. to 9:30 or 10 p.m. with breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus.

The Cove pub closed at the end of April, 2022 after more than 30 years at the location.
