With a launch date just ahead of that fateful time in 2020 when everything changed, Main Street's Old Bird restaurant has wrapped up its run after just over three years.
"It is never easy to say goodbye, but we are proud of what we have accomplished and the impact we have had on our community," writes Old Bird's owner Sophia Lin in a heartfelt farewell message posted Wednesday night (May 24) to the Old Bird website and its social media feeds.
The modern Chinese restaurant at 3950 Main St took over the space previously home to Nomad back in 2019; Lin has been involved from the get-go, however, there have been front- and back-of-house staffing changes over the years. Opening chef Dez Lo made her way into the competition on Top Chef Canada, while Shawn Jones is now a wine and front-of-house consultant as one half of Vianello Consulting.
"As we say goodbye, we would like to express our utmost gratitude to our dedicated staff, past and current, who have worked tirelessly to provide exceptional service, delicious food, and fantastic cocktails. We could not have done it without them!" applauds Lin in Old Bird's closing message.
Old Bird was known for its take on Shanghainese and Taiwanese fare and cocktails in a lively atmosphere.
In Old Bird's goodbye message, Lin urges everyone to continue to support independent restaurants.
"We hope that Old Bird on Main Street will always hold a special place in your hearts and that you will remember us fondly," Lin writes.
Old Bird is now permanently closed.
