It's not a rumour, it's true that Rumor Café, a new daytime spot with coffee and light bites, is now open in East Vancouver.
Rumor is located at 957 E Hastings St, which spent much of 2024 serving as a private event space after restaurant and bar VV Tapas Lounge closed its doors in December 2023.
Vestiges of VV Tapas remain, namely its operators and much of its decor. Head chef Zach Poole, who was with VV Tapas, is on board for the new café as chef and general manager and is behind a menu of easygoing fare like a hot ham and cheese sandwich, quiche, salad, soups, pastries, and $4 breakfast sandwiches served on house-made English muffins. Guests can expect an ever-changing menu with frequent specials.
Alongside the food program, Rumor is serving Smoking Gun Coffee (out of the Fraser Valley) and its bev program is led by Head Barista Sharon Dallas, according to info provided by the business. Local beers and wines are also available, as are other non-alcoholic beverages like tea and kombucha.
The atmosphere is light, bright, and filled with colourful local art, and aims to be a welcoming space for the Strathcona community.
Rumor offers a daily happy hour from 2 to 6 p.m. when guests can enjoy discounts, like $2 off beer and wine.
The café opened quietly in early December 2024 and its hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can follow them on Instagram: @rumor__cafe for more info and updates.
