Mercado Panaderia is coming to East Hastings in Vancouver Metro Vancouver's Originals expands.

East Hastings will soon be home to a new Mexican food shop.

Mercado Mexican Market and Panaderia, from the group behind Port Moody's Original's Mexicano restaurant, will be moving into a small shop near the intersection of East Hastings and Nanaimo streets.

A panaderia is a type of bakery.

The shop at 2447 E Hastings St. used to be Red Cat Records' second location until the independent record store shut it down during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in May of 2020. Since then the storefront has been empty.

Original's Group already has a Vancouver outpost with Lucha Libre Tacos at 722 Nelson St. They've also already stepped into the retail market with their Mercado Mexican Market and Taqueria in Coquitlam where they sell a mix of in-house made items along with imported foods. They also have meals to go and delivery options.

What the new storefront will look like exactly hasn't been announced and paper still covers the window, simply promising the new shop will be "coming soon."
