A West End space that has seen a bit of turnover in recent years is getting a new restaurant tenant, as GrandJoy Hotpot has signs up and renovations underway.
Grandjoy is setting up shop at 1509 Robson St, which had been home to Avo House, a sushi restaurant, until September 2024.
Not much is known about the forthcoming hot pot venture, as the business does not appear to have a website or much social media presence.
A TikTok account called "GrandJoy Hotpot" has not posted any content but has been interacting with videos shared by Vancouverites on the video app. The description for the page reads "A Healthier Way to Enjoy Hotpot."
GrandJoy Hotpot is currently hiring, but job listings do not provide any additional details about the business.
A business license for the new restaurant shows as "pending" in the City of Vancouver database. Grandjoy expects to have eight employees.
The new hot pot restaurant marks a shift in cuisine for the address, which has had some kind of sushi business in place for nearly the past decade; Hato Popo was there from 2015 to 2019, Kazami from 2019 to 2022, and Avo House from 2022 to 2024.
No opening date or menu details are currently available.
The neighbourhood is already home to another hot pot concept; late last year, popular Vancouver-based self-serve chain Big Way Hot Pot took over the vacated Menya Itto spot at 1479 Robson St.
