One of Vancouver's oldest restaurants didn't close, it just rebranded

Same fish and chips, same owner, new name
the-london-fish
The London Fish is Windjammer restaurant in every way but the name. The 52-year-old Vancouver restaurant recently rebranded.

Those passing by Windjammer on Commercial Drive may have noticed the sign above the long-time fish-and-chip shop has disappeared.

Established in 1972, it's one of the longest continuously run restaurants in the city, sitting at 937 Commercial Dr. for the past 52 years.

However, the sign for Windjammer came down recently, and one for The London Fish appeared. Often that's a literal sign a restaurant has closed or changed hands.

But not this time.

While the sign is new, the restaurant isn't changing. Owner Numan Gupta tells V.I.A. the name was changed simply to give newcomers to the city a better idea of what they serve: English-style fish and chips.

Gupta has owned the place for 25 years and the business is continuing as it has been for more than five decades.
