Vancouver's busy Kitsilano neighbourhood is set to get a new casual Asian restaurant as Petite Bao slides in to replace a short-lived ramen joint.
The space at 2825 W Broadway now has signage for Petite Bao. The location was previously home to Ramen Densetsu, which launched in mid-2020 and had a short run there. The address was previously home to neighbourhood favourite Hoshi Sushi, which shuttered towards the end of 2019.
So far, Petite Bao has a limited online presence, with a parked Instagram page (@petitebao) with no info or photos.
"Our food focus on fresh locally sourced ingredients with an Asian twist," notes a recent job posting for Petite Bao.
An online menu for Petite Bao shows that the venture's core focus will be sandwiches loaded onto fluffy bao buns, with some kicked-up sides and salads.
The bao sandwich options include pork belly, fried chicken, fried fish, and some meaty, decadent options like a Wagyu beef burger with cheese or a short rib bao inspired by the flavours of Beef Bourgignon. For vegetarians, an "Impossible" bao-wich will feature the meat substitute in burger form.
Other menu offerings include a gingery chicken salad or a "bao" Caesar salad, as well as items like fiery Szechuan chicken wings and Salt and Pepper fried calamari. Petite Bao will be dishing up some kicked-up fries, including a poutine made with cheese curds and short rib meat, truffle fries, and Parmesan Cajun fries.
No opening date has been made public for Petite Bao, but operators did indicate in job postings the "start up" restaurant was aiming to be open in October.
