Pizzeria Farina, which has been at 915 Main St in Vancouver since 2011, is known for its outstanding Neapolitan-style pizzas. The restaurant must shut down within weeks following the sale of the building in which it resides.

Update: 4 p.m. May 1

Pizza Farina announced on Instagram its closure has been put off and new lease signed.

Original story: 5 p.m. March 31.

With 11 years in business under its belt, a much-loved Vancouver pizza restaurant confirms it must close down as new owners take control of its building.

Pizzeria Farina, a modest pie shop located at 915 Main Street, confirmed the rumours via social media on March 31.

Earlier this week, Farina's next-door neighbours, a cozy bar called The Boxcar, revealed the sale of the building led to the business being handed an eviction notice.

Farina resides in a ground-floor retail unit at the Cobalt Hotel building, which was home to the long-closed Cobalt Cabaret. The SRO was owned by the Sahota family, whose properties the Regent and Balmoral were bought up by the City of Vancouver

Pizzeria Farina, known for its delectable Neapolitan style pizzas, bottled cocktails, and irreverent charm, celebrated its 10th anniversary in Vancouver last summer.

In 2018, a sibling location, Farina a Legna, launched on the North Shore with an expansive menu of pasta dishes, alongside pizza, appetizers, salads, and drinks.

Though this news is a blow to Pizzeria Farina and its fans, the pizza restaurant is hopeful their April 30 end date on Main isn't the absolutely end game for the biz.

"We remain optimistic that we will find a solution and Farina will live on," says the business, adding: "We wanted to take this time to thank you for your support over the last 11 years. We never dreamed our little shop would have become what it is today."

Pizzeria Farina is open daily from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
