Put a little sparkle in your end-of-summer fun while supporting a worthy cause via a new fundraising event called Picnic + Bubbles.
Organized by the culinary group Les Dames d’Escoffier's British Columbia Chapter and taking place on Sunday, August 21, the inaugural ticketed event is a choose-your-own-adventure style experience: You choose the restaurant and its menu of food paired with a bottle of sparkling wine and head to the picnic destination of your choice - including many of the parks in Metro Vancouver that are designated a-okay for responsibly enjoying an alcoholic drink.
Naturally, you also get to choose who you picnic with, whether it's a friend, a date, or a family member.
Tickets remain for about a dozen participating restaurants located in Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Burnaby, and the styles span from modern chef-driven diner fare to some of the city's hottest restaurants, including L'Abattoir, Juke, and Autostrada. For $150, you'll receive a multi-course picnic for two with a bottle of specially-chosen bubbles that pairs perfectly with your meal.
Pick-up times for the picnic bundles span from 3 to 5 p.m. (a time must be selected for your tickets).
In addition to restaurants in Metro Vancouver, Picnic + Bubbles is also featuring a handful of Okanagan restaurants if you find yourself out that way. Highlights include menus from the excellent restaurant at the Naramata Inn and Kelowna's terrific Sunny's: A Modern Diner.
While some of these spots are known for their impeccable dining rooms and dishes, each participating restaurant has peak picnic perfection in mind with their menus, which is how you'll come to enjoy a menu like Vancouver's legendary Vii's which features samosa with chutney; sprouted lentil salad; chickpeas with star anise and date masala; naan and rice; and coconut rice pudding, paired with a bottle of Evolve Effervescence from the Okanagan's Time Family Winery.
Picnic + Bubbles is not only a way to get a top-notch meal and wine pairing to enjoy al fresco, it's also a fundraiser: 50% of the proceeds will go to Food Banks BC.
