A popular food truck beloved for its hand-rolled chimney cakes and soft-serve ice cream is parking its first permanent location in Coquitlam.
The Praguery Café will open in the city’s new Town Centre Park Community Centre (1207 Pinetree Way) on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m.
The new, immobile café features an expanded menu from the European street deserts typically available at the Praguery’s three trucks, including a variety of sweet and savoury danishes, chicken and veggie focaccia sandwiches, more selections of espresso as well as a Basque cheesecake with house-made strawberry or hot fudge sauce and cream puffs.
Of course, its famed signature chimney cakes and soft-serve ice cream will also be available.
The Praguery was founded by Jaroslav Mestka in 2016 after he’d taken a wrong turn down a street during a visit to his home city of Prague and stumbled upon a little shop serving chimney cakes with soft ice cream.
“It was like fireworks in my brain,” he said on the company’s website.
“The holy grail of taste: ice cream and soft, doughy, caramelized pasty that was both fluffy and crunchy. It was a match made in heaven.”
Fans readily agreed.
“What a treat,” said one review on Yelp.
“The cones and the syrups complement the cream perfectly,” said another.
The first 10 customers at the new café will receive a $50 gift card, a complimentary box of four cream puffs and a free coffee beverage or hot chocolate, while the next 10 customers get a free chimney cake of their choice along with a coffee or hot chocolate.
Customers 21 to 50 will receive a free coffee or hot chocolate.
