Olympic Village beer lovers are out of luck this Valentine's Day (pun intended).
As of February 13, the popular False Creek location of Craft Beer Market will be temporarily closed for renovations.
The bar and restaurant known for its extensive craft beer menu, rotating taps, and casual west coast pub fare, is closing for "cosmetic changes," nothing structural according to manager Leis Buendia.
Good news for the iconic 1930s Salt Building that Craft occupies. The building was first renovated in 2010 for the Olympics to LEED sustainability standards and is considered one of the largest LEAF-certified restaurants in Canada.
The original wooden trusses and pilings were preserved in the initial reno and the room currently has wood everywhere you look. A post on Instagram from Brothers Fabrication teases that the new reno will involve a deconstructed silver air stream trailer repurposed into a booth if that's any indication of the vibe they're going for.
Buendia says Craft will hopefully only be closed for four to five weeks, "but you never know with renovations."
"It's our intention to be closed for five weeks," he tells V.IA. over the phone.
In the meantime, the English Bay location on Beach Avenue will remain open so beer lovers can get their fix there.
