Those looking for a game of pinball, Mario Kart or other group games will have one less place to play come the end of October.
Glitch, Kitsilano's retro arcade and bar, has announced its impending closure.
"It’s with heavy hearts that we announce Glitch Bar & Games Room will be closing its doors for good on Saturday, October 26," reads a post from Glitch on Instagram. "Our lease is up, and unfortunately, the new rent rates in our beloved Kitsilano neighbourhood are simply unsustainable."
Filled with games and art from the 1990s and 2000s, Glitch opened in January 2020 at 2287 W Broadway and grew a fan base given its video games, smash burgers and Seth Rogen-themed washroom.
The smash burgers come from the appropriately on-theme named Super Smash Burgers. The burger biz operates out of Glitch, providing the food for the bar and doing its own take-out and delivery service.
Glitch's announcement coincided with a similar one from the Super Smash Burgrers crew.
"We have been priced out of the neighbourhood and unfortunately, we’ll be closing our Kitsilano location on October 26th," reads the post. "This isn’t what we wanted, and we’re absolutely devastated — we’ve put everything into Super Smash Burgers."
While their home in Kitsilano is closing, both businesses have also announced they're not giving up.
"Don’t fret—this isn’t a permanent goodbye! We’re already on the hunt for a new location to bring you Glitch 2.0," reads the arcade bar's post.
"This is NOT the end! We’re searching hard for a new spot where we can keep bringing you the burgers you love. And if we don’t find a new location, we’ll take Super Smash Burgers on the road with a food truck!" reads the Super Smash Burgers post.
