Restaurant on UBC campus known for all-day comfort eats announces permanent closure

Locals are disappointed.

The Point, which re-opened in August 2023 as its current concept of casual all-day comfort eats, will close permanently in mid-April 2024

The UBC campus will soon be without one of its restaurants, as The Point announced recently it will be closing permanently this spring.

"We are sad to share that The Point will be closing at the end of this academic term," operators shared on The Point's social media as March got underway.

"Thank you so much to all our loyal customers. Our amazing team has been given opportunities in other areas of UBC Food Services."

In the lead-up to its closure in April, The Point has now ceased operations on the weekends.

Located in the Marine Drive Residence at 2205 Lower Mall, The Point has been a go-to for visitors to nearby Wreck Beach; the restaurant even serves a "Wreck Beach Burger" on its menu.

The Point describes its all-day menu offerings as "comfort food with inventive Asian flavours," including salads, pasta, and breakfast dishes.

In its current iteration, The Point debuted with a new look and menu in August 2023. More recently, the menu was refreshed at the end of October, according to The Point's social media.

UBC's food offerings have seen several changes in recent years.

At the end of last year, Tacomio vacated its space at 6025 University Blvd and Nicli took over the restaurant unit vacated by Virtuous Pie, which closed up at 3339 Shrum Lane in late September 2022.

The ex-Biercraft pub morphed into the first-ever Sports Illustrated branded restaurant venture, called the SI Clubhouse, while the new-ish Wildlight Kitchen + Bar has captured attention for being a contemporary Pacific Northwest dining destination on the campus.

Currently, the Tacomio space and The Boulevard coffee business are listed for sale.

So far, no indication has been made for plans for The Point's space. The Point's last day of business is slated for April 13.

V.I.A. has reached out to The Point for any further information about the upcoming closure.
