More Metro Vancouver restaurants have announced temporary closures due to employees testing positive for COVID-19.
Vancouver's Maenam in Kitsilano, and Tangent Cafe on Commercial Drive, as well as Surrey's Taphouse Guildford, have shared on social media details about COVID-19 positive cases among their respective staffs, and plans for temporary closure.
On Tuesday, popular Vancouver restaurant Tacofino announced the temporary closure of their Gastown location due to an employee's COVID-19 infection.
In all the cases, the restaurants are working with their local health authority, and are implementing next steps in their individual safety plans in order to ensure there remains no risk to staff or customers. None of the restaurants so far appear on health authority public exposure lists.
The Taphouse Guildford's sibling pub, Taphouse Coquitlam, was the focus of a separate Fraser Health COVID-19 public exposure warning earlier this month. In that case, the infected individual was a customer, not an employee. That notification, issued alongside one for another Coquitlam pub, came as a surprise to Taphouse management, who reached out to Fraser Health immediately. In response, Fraser Health admitted they erred in not reaching out to the businesses before publishing them on the public exposure list, and have indicated they will change their protocols in order not to leave businesses in the dark.
Restaurants in B.C. must have WorkSafeBC-approved operational plans in order to be open and offering dine-in. Because of those plans, and vigilance about public safety, restaurants in Metro Vancouver have been up front about employees who test positive, opting to close their businesses temporarily in order to conduct deep cleanings and santizations.
In addition, several other kinds of businesses in Metro Vancouver have been using their social media accounts to post notifications they've closed due to employees testing positive for COVID-19. Larger corporations have been posting such updates on their websites, like Loblaw, which posted notification about a case at a No Frills store in Coquitlam.
Here are the social media postings from each of the restaurants which have newly-announced COVID-related closures.
