It's been so long in the making, some had abandoned all hope that the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls, croissants, and bread would ever fill the air on 6th Avenue at Yukon Street, but Small Victory is now in the final stretch ahead of opening its fourth location.
Situated in a new build at 388 W 6th Ave, the Vancouver bakery and cafe business has been working on its Mount Pleasant location since 2020, when owners purchased a 7,000-square-foot retail space located on the ground floor of Chard Development’s The Yukon.
The Yukon is the development that sits on the site of what had been 3 Vets, which closed in Dec. 2017 after 70 years in business.
The bakeshop's more modest beginnings were at their location in Yaletown; they are approaching their fifth anniversary at 3070 Granville St in the South Granville neighbourhood. Small Victory also opened a third location at the Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby in the interim between announcing the Mount Pleasant bakery location and now.
Known for their always-stunning baked goods alongside a comprehensive coffee program, with breakfast and lunch dishes - and cakes and pies, too - Small Victory's newest location is not only its fourth bakeshop/cafe but also a production facility.
“We had planned to expand our business to meet the fast-growing demand from our customers. After the pandemic emerged, we reassessed our business needs and concluded that demand was still growing and that a new physical store and production facility was needed to help safely meet demand and provide our customers access to our freshly baked products," Qasim Nathoo, Business Development Manager at Small Victory Bakery, told V.I.A. in an email back in October 2020.
Small Victory is a Vancouver family business success story; Nathoo, and his siblings, Afshan and Zakhir, founded the bakery several years ago.
A few days ago, Small Victory shared on social media that the opening of the West 6th Avenue bakery was imminent. "Our fourth location is on its way. Make sure to follow us for updates as we anticipate our Mount Pleasant opening," shared the business on their Instagram account, @sv_bakery.
V.I.A. has reached out to Small Victory to learn more about the fourth location but has not received a response. We will update with more information as it becomes available.
