Kosoo Korean Restaurant plans to open soon at 1123 Westwood St., Coquitlam.

One of Vancouver's popular Korean fusion restaurants is coming to Coquitlam's City Centre neighbourhood.

Kosoo Korean Restaurant, which has two prominent locations in Vancouver, has announced via Instagram that it is currently hiring staff for its Coquitlam restaurant.

The new restaurant will be located at 105-1123 Westwood St., formerly the home of Cygnet Hot Pot, which permanently closed after a year in business.

Kosoo has been operating since 2015, under the leadership of chef and owner Seung-Min Han, who is endeavouring to bring the rich flavours and comfort foods of Seoul to the Tri-Cities.

According to the website, some have complimented Kosoo for "kick-ass" Korean soul food.

According to the company, Kosoo means "master" and "to sustain" in Korean.

"Kosoo is a space of ‘Creativity’ where chefs experiment to present new flavours and types of dishes by using a variety of Korean traditional fermented sauces," the website states.

Kosoo is also known for its fried chicken and signature Korean-style sauces.

The two downtown Vancouver locations are 1128 Robson St. and 832 Cardero St.

Some tasty sounding items on the menu include:

  • honey butter fried chicken
  • beef brisket budaejjigae
  • beef gimbap
  • noodle dish, topped with beef dduk-galbi with housemade meatballs
  • tuna tataki

Among the hot pot selections at Kosoo are classics like Gopchang Geongol (Beef Intestine Hot Pot) Beoseot Geongol (Marinated Beef and Mushroom Hot Pot).

The exact date of opening has not been announced.
