Vancouver's popular spot for cream puffs will soon stop making cream puffs

Beta5 is wrapping up its cream puff era and going back to its roots: chocolate

Vancouver artisan chocolatier Beta5 has always based its business on creativity, adaptability, and flexibility. The 13-year-old local business has won countless awards and stolen countless hearts with its whimsical, colourful, and playful sweet treats, including its signature line of delicious and eye-catching cream puffs.

However, Beta5 has revealed it is bowing out of the cream puff game permanently.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Beta5 shares that its cream puff "era" has come "to a close."

To bid a sweet farewell to the golden, tender choux pastry orbs piped plump with creamy fillings and adorned with all sorts of whimsical toppings, Beta5 will spend the next couple of months offering what it calls its Cream Puff Anthology.

"Over the next 10 weeks, we’re bringing back our favourite cream puffs - the classics, the can’t-miss hits, and the bangers - for one final bite," describes Beta5.

Since launching cream puffs in September 2012, Beta5 has created over 300 flavours of the decadent, delicate treat.

The upcoming 10-week run, which kicks off September 17, is broken down into categories, starting with Pies & Cakes, which includes Lemon Tart, Carrot Cake, and Apple Pie in its half-dozen offerings.

Cherry Cola and Burger are part of week three ("It's a Party" week, October 1 to 5), while one of its most viral hits, the Sesame Miso cream puff topped with an edible mini ramen bowl - all made of sweet things - is part of the "Get Cozy" week, running October 15 to 19. The last week, November 19 to 23, is dedicated to yet-to-be-determined "Fan Favourites."

After November 23, cream puffs will be no more at Beta5, and the business will be "going back to [its] roots" to refocus on "exploring chocolate through a creative lens."

All of the cream puffs are available by pre-order for pick-up at its Strathcona storefront, though Beta5 says it will have limited quantities available for walk-in customers.

"Looking back through our cream puff archives has left us feeling incredibly grateful for the love you’ve shown these delicious little creations," shared Beta5's operators on social media, offering thanks to customers who have included the shop's cream puffs in "celebrations big and small."

Beta5 is located at 409 Industrial Ave in Vancouver. Follow @beta5chocolates on Instagram.
