Along with the new year, this week will see a new restaurant in Mount Pleasant.
Las Tortas Mexican Gourmet Sandwiches is opening its second location not far from its original spot as it takes over the former home of Grub on Main Street.
Grub closed its longtime home at 4328 Main St. near East 28 Avenue in the fall of 2024 after 17 years in the neighbourhood.
Only a few months later, Las Tortas will be opening up there, with short hours starting on Jan. 3 (from 5 to 10 p.m.) before opening full-time on Jan. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to owner and chef Moises Toyber.
Las Tortas opened the first location, at 3353 Cambie St., 15 years ago. It specializes in tortas featuring in-house-created or locally sourced ingredients.
They also carry burritos, tacos and other Mexican dishes.
