Vancouver locals Jordan Weisner and Kyle Shea are re-imagining old school coupon books as a way to explore the city's vegan restaurants while saving money.

Two Vancouver locals came up with a solution to continue exploring the local restaurant scene without hurting the bank.

Jordan Weisner and Kyle Shea are re-imagining nostalgic coupon books with a local, plant-based twist. The duo first launched Canada's first Vancouver Plant-Based Deals Book in 2021 and are now getting ready to launch a bigger and better second edition.

The book includes coupons for a total of 54 plant-based and vegan restaurants around Metro Vancouver and B.C. and can help Vancouver foodies save $1,000 on their meals.

The new edition is split into two categories: Lower Mainland restaurants and a bonus "Travel" section. While the former lists local favourites such as The Burrow, Pizzeria Grano, and Kokomo, the bonus section includes must-try spots that are further away from the city, such as in Whistler, Pemberton, Victoria, and Chilliwack.

"Not everyone is going to make it there but we thought it would be cool to add some spots around for when people travel," notes Weisner.

When it comes to coupon expiry dates, the book makes it simple.

Since the deals are based on exclusive partnerships with local restaurants, every coupon in the book is valid starting May 1, 2023, and expires on the same date: May 31, 2024.

To use the coupon, simply present it to the server when paying for the meal.

"This book is obviously ideal for anyone who enjoys plant-based food," Weisner tells V.I.A. "It's also ideal for anyone who enjoys exploring new restaurants, local restaurants, and anyone who's interested in going out even if their budget is tighter at the moment."

The co-founder adds that while the book does help save on meals, it's meant to give locals a nudge towards trying new flavours and new restaurants; to "give them a reason to go out of their usual routine and support a local restaurant," Weisner says.

The average coupon is over $10 with the biggest deal in the book worth $25. The book itself costs $29.99 but will be discounted during the pre-sale (starting April 10) down to $24.95.

The Vancouver Plant-Based Deals Book officially launches on May 1.
