It seems that West End dim sum restaurant Jingle Bao’s doors aren’t being permanently closed at the end of this week.
Recently, online chatter indicated that the restaurant, which opened in 2019 at 774 Denman St., would closing down as of July 31.
The online chatter was supported by the fact that the business’s OpenTable page (a website used to manage restaurant reservations) had an announcement saying exactly that.
"Thank you for supporting us, unfortunately, we are closing our doors July 31st, 2025. Thank you for the incredi-bao time!" read a short message.
The OpenTable page appears to be the only actively monitored digital presence for the restaurant.
Additionally, the restaurant’s space has been on sale for months, and the social media accounts hadn’t been used since April. Jingle Bao's Instagram offers a link to one webpage: Its OpenTable page.
V.I.A. reached out to Jingle Bao to confirm the closure announcement on July 27, but did not receive a response until the following day.
Owner stumped
Jingle Bao owner Selinna Liu indicated in an email July 29 that the restaurant is open, and will remain that way beyond the end of the month.
“I am confirming that we are not closing the store July 31, and we are still operating the business,” said Liu.
As part of further correspondence to clarify the closure message posted online, Liu said in another email it’s unclear who wrote the note announcing Jingle Bao would be closing.
“I don’t know who put it on the OpenTable, we need to find it out,” she said.
The message announcing the closure remained on Jingle Bao's OpenTable until late Tuesday afternoon.
Liu says there are no plans to close the restaurant currently.
