Top Vancouver Vietnamese restaurant to reopen in new location over a year after closing original spot

Something "Old" will be new again!

Over a year after closing Hanoi Old Quarter restaurant on Victoria Drive, the owners of Vancouver's popular Mr. Red Café will resurrect their second concept at a new location in Ktisilano.

Hanoi Old Quarter is set to re-open at 3105 W Broadway, a representative for the restaurant confirmed with V.I.A. in an email.

The Vietnamese restaurant replaces Kitsaya Sushi, which went out of business as of March 20 at the address, according to the City of Vancouver's business licence database.

Hanoi Old Quarter opened in 2019 at 5207 Victoria Dr and was named one of the city's best Vietnamese restaurants in 2020. The restaurant specializes in dishes from Vietnam's northern region, like Bun Cha Ha Noi (a vermicelli noodle platter with pork patties and grilled pork in a fragrant broth with fresh greens) and Cha Ca (tumeric fish with dill).

Owners Rose Nguyen and her husband (and chef) Hong Duong closed Hanoi Old Quarter in the summer of 2023. Earlier this year, the couple also closed the original Mr Red Café on East Hastings Street. (Coincidentally, a new Vietnamese restaurant called Saigonville has opened already in its place.)

Mr Red Café continues to operate at 2680 W Broadway, where it has enjoyed much success since launching in 2016.

Now Nguyen and Duong are celebrating a decade of restaurant ownership in Vancouver along with the return of Hanoi Old Quarter.

Hanoi Old Quarter is expected to open soon in its new Kitsilano location, though an official opening date has not been announced.
