'The time is right': Vancouver bánh mì shop closes to rebrand as Vietnamese bistro

"While this may seem like an end, it is actually the beginning of an exciting new chapter"

After almost a decade in the West End, VietSub has shut down.

The bánh mì shop opened at 1682 Robson St. in 2016; it was one of two VietSub locations (the other, at 520 Robson St., is still open) carrying a variety of Vietnamese subs and soups.

The West End location closed on Feb. 5, 2025.

"It is with a mix of emotions that we announce the closure of VietSub Restaurant," reads a note on the shop's window.

However, the space won't be shuttered for long, as VietSub's ownership has announced a new restaurant coming to the space.

"We feel the time is right to embark on a fresh culinary adventure with a new concept," reads the note. "Plus 84 Vietnamese Bistro will feature simple, Vietnamese fusion mains, sandwiches, and vegetarian [options] for eat-in or takeout."

Vietnam's country code for phone calls is +84.

Ownership notes they won't be closed for too long at the West End Robson location.

"It's not goodbye forever, just for now," reads the note. "We look forward to welcoming you to our new space and sharing our passion for delicious food in a refreshed environment."

Expectations are for Plus 84 Vietnamese Bistro to open in March.
