Vancouver's newest burger joint is officially opening Jan. 11 just steps from the Granville Strip, and they're all about the essentials: absolutely crushable burgers, fries, and shakes.
Burger Crush hails from Victoria and began as a food truck concept in 2019 before shifting their nostalgia-fuelled operation to a storefront on Fort Street. Now Burger Crush has ventured over to the Mainland, and has moved in at 755 Nelson St in a former Johnny Rockets location.
The Burger Crush team - headed up by co-owners and hospitality veterans Temperance Phair and Scott Renton - made quick and colourful work of the space, creating a modern diner with a slim menu of burger joint staples.
The twist here, though, is that Burger Crush is cooking for two kinds of eaters in equal strides, presenting traditional animal protein versions of burgers, shakes, and sauces alongside plant-based versions. To that end, you can order a single or double beef burger with cheese, a vegan burger on a vegan bun with vegan cheese, or the sort-of in-between option, a veggie burger with dairy cheese. The burgers come with standard toppings, and they have a few simple add-ons available, like mushrooms.
Shakes are made using dairy or a house-made coconut ice cream base in flavours like strawberry, chocolate, or root beer. Fries come plain or decked out ("Crush Fries") featuring cheese (non-dairy option available) with their signature "Crush" sauce and onions. And, yes, you'll be reminded of the "Animal Fries" at In N Out Burger with this option.
Burger Crush is also serving up tofu nuggets with dipping sauces, for a non-burger option, and they're also doing kid meals.
The menu is tight and lends itself to fast service, whether you're opting to grab a seat or take your burger feast to go.
Burger Crush has been in soft open mode for a few days, and is already drawing crowds for their simple, throwback, classic burger joint vibes.
